Saturday was an exciting day! Me (Aurelie), Juan and Grant went over to Burhou for the first time to set up the first of our Puffin Cameras. We had some very calm seas and a good trip over on the boat. It can be a little tricky getting to Burhou sometimes, we have to think carefully about weather and tides.
This first trip was to set up the first webcam to test the system and watch for the Puffins when they return from sea. For me this involved a lot of learning about cameras and wiring!
On Burhou there is a little cottage which we stay in when we are carrying out survey work and a garden shed which is where we store the camera cabinet with all the wires and power to run the cameras. The first camera is set up at the edge of the Puffin colony burrows, about 30 metres from the shed. The first look at the cabinet was a little scary but we soon worked out what wires went where and what they do.
